Lifelong Learning Education & Libraries

Marine Corps Community Services South Carolina’s Lifelong Learning program provides voluntary education and library programs that can help prepare Marines for success in their professional lives, both while in the Corps, and later in civilian life.

The Lifelong Learning Centers provide professional voluntary education services for all military personnel and their family members. Our goal is to assist all clients in a friendly, courteous, professional manner, with a positive attitude and a sincere willingness to help. The U.S. Marine Corps Voluntary Education Program provides active-duty service members the opportunity to reach their educational goals. Service members can enroll in post-secondary education programs that lead to associate’s, bachelor’s, and graduate degrees. They can complete their high school education or earn their equivalency diploma (GED), improve basic academic skills, and enroll in vocational and technical schools. Active duty can also potentially receive college credit for military experience based on the American Council on Education (ACE) evaluation of military training.

Other programs for active duty include testing to earn recommended college credits and military classification testing, the United Services Military Apprenticeship Program (USMAP), and DANTES (Defense Activity for Non-Traditional Educational Support) certification and distance learning programs. Lifelong Learning Centers are staffed by trained counselors and technicians. Staff members provide academic counseling for active duty and adult family members, authorized civilians (Civil Service and Contracted base employees), and retirees on all programs available to them.
