Military Tuition Assistance

Marine Tuition Assistance (TA) is available for all active duty Marines. Each member receives $4500.00 per fiscal year (1 Oct-30 Sep). There is a cap of $250 per semester hour, $166.67 per quarter hour, and $16.67 per clock hour. Tuition assistance is also available to Reservists on continuous active duty, enlisted Reservists ordered to active duty 120 days, and to Reservist Officers ordered to active duty for two years or more.

Navy Tuition Assistance is available to all active duty sailors for 16 semester hours per fiscal year, at 100% of the cost of tuition up to $250 per semester hour. Per admin 105/10 effective 15 April 2010, all sailors must now utilize an online web portal to request and process military TA. The current web TA URL is myeducation.netc.navy.mil. If you have any questions, please contact your education office in Charleston 843-764-4493, ext 12.

Welcome to the New Web Based Tuition Assistance System!

Web-based military tuition assistance (TA) will save time, reduce running around for our Marines, and streamline processes for commands. Marines will fill out their TA applications from their work centers via an on-line portal. Command designated officers will also endorse the applications online. The Marine will be notified by email when the education office has processed the TA. Check out the process to see how it works, Click Here. For a fix for Web-TA document up-loading problems, Click Here. Contact your Education Office for any questions.

First time applicants of TA will need the following:

Must have a minimum GT score of 100 OR a minimum TABE score of 10.2 OR a MASP completion certificate before qualifying for Tuition Assistance. If you meet these requirements, you are ready to start the Tuition Assistance process. If you do not meet these qualifications, please contact our office.

Ready to start the TA process:

  1. Complete the College 101 course, print, sign and date the certificate at the end of the course.
  2. Print, read, initial and sign the Statement of Understanding.
  3. Obtain command approval and register for class with your school. Be sure to allow yourself plenty of lead time for the approval process with your command and the education office as TA CANNOT be authorized after the start date of the class.
  4. Proceed to the website: myeducation.netc.navy.mil (Most likely your account will have a notice that you are not eligible for TA and will list the reasons - this is normal - Proceed to step 5.)
  5. Once signed into your account, click on “My Education Plan” and upload the signed College 101 Certificate, Statement of Understanding, and a Degree/Academic Plan OR SOCMAR agreement. The Degree/Academic Plan and/or SOCMAR agreement will be provided by your school.
  6. Call your education office to receive your initial counseling: MCAS: 843-228-7484 or MCRD: 843-228-3889.

Applicants who have processed paper TA in the past, and this is the first time processing WebTA, will need the following:

  1. Obtain command approval and register for class with your school. Be sure to allow yourself plenty of lead time for the approval process with your command and the education office as TA CANNOT be authorized after the start date of the class.
  2. Print, read, initial and sign the Statement of Understanding.
  3. Proceed to the website: myeducation.netc.navy.mil (You may have a notice that you are not eligible for TA and the system will list the reasons - this is normal - Proceed to step 4.).
  4. Once you are signed into your account, click on “My Education Plan” and upload your signed College 101 Certificate, Statement of Understanding and your Degree Plan or SOCMAR agreement from your school (if you need assistance with this document, please contact your school or your education office for more information).
  5. If you have a notice that you are not eligible for Tuition Assistance, call your education office for assistance: MCAS: 843-228-7484 or MCRD: 843-228-3889.
  6. If you do not have a notice, you are ready to proceed with your Tuition Assistance application. For step by step instructions on how to submit your application: WebTA Instructional PowerPoint.
  7. CAUTION: When filling out the “Applicant Information” section, be conscious of the following:
  • You will be asked to provide your “CO or By Direction Authority’s E-Mail Address”: if you do not know who your command has authorized to approve TA, please call your education office or your command to verify.
  • When asked to verify your “Command Address” and your “Assigned Education Office”, ensure that it properly reflects MCAS Beaufort OR MCRD PI, whichever base you are assigned. If the proper base is not identified, use the drop down menu provided to manually change the information.

Restrictions on Tuition Assistance:

  1. TA cannot be used if applicant has had or is pending disciplinary action.
  2. TA cannot be used to pay for flight training.
  3. TA cannot be used by reservists if not on continuous active duty, by enlisted reservists if ordered to active duty less than 120 days, or by reservist officers if ordered to active duty for less than two years or more.
  4. TA cannot be used by those in duty-under-instruction status or in an officer accession program involving full time instruction at a civilian institution.
  5. TA will only be approved for courses scheduled for one academic term at a time.
  6. TA will not be authorized for the same course previously funded by TA.
  7. Up-front TA funding is not provided for courses if the institutions drop/add period or late registration date has passed.
  8. Reimbursement of TA funds must be made by money order or cashier's check payable to U.S. Treasurer and mailed to NETPDTC.

Fees directly required for course enrollment may be combined with tuition. The Marine Corps will only pay fees that are published, mandatory, charged for course enrollment, and reimbursable in the event the student needs to withdraw from the course. The rules and regulations regarding TA can be found in MCO 1560.25.
