Preseparation Counseling Brief/Interview:
This mandatory briefing typically takes one full day and includes Subject Matter Experts outlining the benefits and entitlements available to transitioning Service members. This brief is mandatory and must be completed before a Service member can separate or retire. Veterans Affairs Benefits Briefing: A briefing conducted by Department of Veterans Affairs personnel outlining VA benefits and entitlements available to transitioning Service members. This component of TAP is sponsored by VA. All separating and retiring Service members should attend a VA Benefits Briefing to learn about all the VA benefits they are or may be entitled to, the procedures for applying for benefits, information on the Montgomery GI Bill, and where to go to get VA assistance (healthcare, VA counseling at a Vet Center, etc. The Preseparation interview portion is conducted by the Unit Transition Counselor (UTC) prior to the brief and shall consist of an explanation of the transition requirements for separating and retiring Service members.
Transition Assistance Program (TAP) Employment Workshop:
Mandatory. Qualified comprehensive workshops conducted by Department of Labor or TAMP personnel. In the workshop personnel will learn how to write a resume and cover letter, get information on skills assessment, job search techniques, and other important information about career and job services available through DOL. Service Members will learn how to access the DOL Career One-Stop Center in their local community to continue their job search if they have not found a job prior to separation or retirement.
Medical Record Review/Disabled Transition Assistance Program (DTAP):
Specifically for individuals who have or THINK they have a potential disability claim. DTAP is also sponsored by VA. All Service members separating or retiring with a service connected disability must attend this briefing. They will learn about eligibility for Chapter 31, Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment Service benefits by VA. |
